Transition from Year 6 to Year 7

The transition process at Serlby Park Academy is a comprehensive and enjoyable experience of secondary school life. This equips our students for a seamless start to their next steps, encompassing social, pastoral and academic aspects.

Please read below a message from our Y5 & 6 Transition Lead/Learning Manager Y7 – Mrs Tweed.

“Hello and a very warm welcome to Year 7! My name is Mrs Tweed, and I am delighted to say that I am the Learning Manager for Year 7 at Serlby Park Academy. I have a wealth of experience in pastoral care, and I am looking forward to supporting you and your child at such a crucial stage of their school career. The transition to secondary school is an important time for students, both in terms of academic achievement as well as building the “whole” person. I am pleased to say that myself and the Year 7 Team are on hand to support you and your child every step of the way to ensure that they feel settled. I value the importance of establishing a routine during the first weeks of term and have high expectations of every student. I would like to emphasise that punctuality and attendance play a very real part in academic success. Similarly, wearing the correct uniform establishes the school identity and a sense of cohesion. Besides having an excellent attitude in their lessons, all students can join in the wide range of clubs and activities that we have on offer.

Throughout the year Serlby Park Academy will invite all Year 5 and 6 students from our family of schools as well as our own students to our taster days. This will give students an introduction of what their life at a secondary school would be like. Taster days sets the expectations for the future and students start to learn the routines of their new school and what is expected of them. During the summer term I will visit the primary feeder schools to introduce myself. Students can ask any questions and will recognise a familiar face when they start their secondary journey here.
